After celebrating her 21st birthday, Lauren and her boyfriend Cameron discover she is pregnant. They had been talking about getting married, and though the pregnancy wasn’t planned, they are both excited.
Lauren’s family is evangelical Christian, so Lauren doesn’t feel comfortable telling them she is pregnant before she is married.
But Cam soon proposes, and they get married two weeks later.
Their urgency is due to Cam’s impending graduation from the University of Idaho whereupon he will immediately fulfill his commitment to the Air Force.
Lauren quits her job as a nail tech and moves to Idaho to be with her new husband.
Unfortunately, six weeks after the wedding, prenatal screening reveals a chromosomal abnormality and multiple anomalies. Lauren needs to terminate her pregnancy as soon as possible.
While driving to Washington to be with Cam’s parents who live in Shoreline, they get pulled over by highway patrol. In a moment of panic, Lauren confesses her abortion plans.
The cop doesn’t say much because he is prohibited by law from stopping any patients from receiving care.
At her appointment at the Lilith Clinic, Lauren learns that she can use her dad’s insurance coverage without him finding out. Relieved, Lauren has her abortion.
On the drive back to Idaho, Lauren starts to grieve the loss of her pregnancy, something she’ll feel for years to come.
