We are wading through challenging times.
As many of us at Pro-Choice Washington expected, the second Trump presidency has filled our group texts, work threads, and DMs with endless news stories about his executive directives and chaotic musings.
In the three weeks since his inauguration, Trump pardoned 23 anti-abortion protesters, made an executive order to stop providing federal funding for health care providers who provide gender affirming care to trans youth, directed the State Department to stop putting nonbinary gender markers on passports, and ordered a global gag order on abortion.
This “flood the zone” tactic is part of their broader strategy. Trumpism relies on fear to keep us from action, which is why we have to do everything we can to push back, in ways big and small.
“What can we do as a community?”
Some of us have found hope in gathering to hear leaders speak, like the author of Liberating Abortion who hosted a talk last week in Seattle. Others feel empowered to rally in Olympia or to meet with lawmakers face-to-face and tell them why these issues matter. While some of us don’t really know what to do and feel overwhelmed.
That’s why we are launching this action-centered newsletter, “The Repro-Round Up”. In each issue, you’ll find pathways to take back agency and to breakthrough the helplessness at all levels to influence:
- Federal Lawmakers
- State Legislation
- Our Pacific Northwest region
- Legal Rights
- Community Action
In this moment, we will need everyone to come together and show support for those most at risk.
So, stay informed about local, state and federal issues. Be connected to organizations and leaders. And take action to protect our democracy through legislation and elections.
