FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEATTLE, Wa – Pro-Choice Washington and the WNBA powerhouse Seattle Storm are partnering up for this year’s Commissioner’s Cup, a five-game, in-season competition with teams across the league battling it out for $500,000, presented by Coinbase.
Throughout this special series, all twelve WBNA teams chose a social justice organization focused on voter engagement and reproductive freedom and raise money in their name.
Pro-Choice Washington joins Gender Justice of Minnesota, Arizona Coalition for Change, The Afiya Center in Dallas, Feminist Majority Foundation in Los Angeles, and Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada as one of the organizations being represented by the western conference teams.
“Being an independent organization that is doing the work on the ground is extremely vital to creating change,” said Crystal Langhorn, Director of Force4Change at Seattle Storm.
“Every person should have the right to reproductive freedom and Pro-Choice Washington is fighting for that!”
During the Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase, teams will raise money for their non-profits. For each win during the five-game series, $3,000 will be donated to the team’s organization, and $1,000 will be donated for a loss.
The first game of this in-season competition began on June 1 and ends on June 25. The Storm won their opening game of the Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase on Tuesday, June 4 at Climate Pledge Arena against Phoenix Mercury, 80-62. Next up, the Storm travels to Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, June 7, to face off against the Vegas Aces.
