Olympia – On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, Pro-Choice Washington will host a reproductive freedom rally on the north steps of the Washington State Capitol.
Abortion rights activists and storytellers will speak alongside state elected leaders including Attorney General Bob Ferguson, Senator Emily Randall (26th LD), Rep. Marcus Riccelli (3rd LD), House Speaker Laurie Jinkins (27th LD), and others.
The reproductive freedom rally will focus on the stories of people who have experienced abortions and the ambitious, pro-abortion access legislative agenda that Pro-Choice Washington and other reproductive freedom coalition partners are working towards passing this January. If passed, the agenda ensures that Washington state can successfully fulfill its role as an abortion sanctuary state in response to the reversal of Roe. This includes the Keep Our Care Act, SB 5246, HB 1263 (KOCA).
Deputy Director Sami Alloy released the following statement:
“The Keep Our Care Act is a powerful tool to protect patient access to abortion, gender-affirming care, and end-of-life care in our state. Too many Washington patients lack access to an abortion provider where they live because of unchecked hospital system mergers that have resulted in discriminatory denials of care. The Keep Our Care Act will help ensure that patients—no matter where they live—don’t lose access to the care they rely on.”
Since becoming an independent organization in October 2021, Pro-Choice Washington has been at the forefront of the reproductive freedom landscape. It has helped to expand and protect abortion access across Washington state. Pro-Choice Washington is the only advocacy organization dedicated solely to reproductive freedom in Washington.
