ICYMI: WA-08 Moderators Heed NARAL Members’ Calls to Ask About Abortion; Stark Difference Between Candidates Revealed
Last night, candidates vying to represent Washington’s 8th Congressional District, Dr. Kim Schrier and Dino Rossi, faced off for their first and only debate. Prior to the debate, NARAL called on debate moderators in a letter to include questions about abortion and reproductive health. The letter and tweets from NARAL Pro-Choice Washington and partners were heard loud and clear, with a question about abortion access asked in the first 10 minutes of the debate. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington Executive Director Tiffany Hankins released the following statement following the victory:
“We are excited that the moderators asked about abortion, giving voters the opportunity to see the stark difference between the two candidates on this important issue. The candidates’ answers revealed the stark difference between the two candidates and only reaffirmed our support for Dr. Kim Schrier. When Dino Rossi doubled down on record of opposing a woman’s right to reproductive freedom, he revealed his complete lack of compassion for women and our lived experiences. We applaud Dr. Schrier for stating loud and proud that women should have the ability to make our own healthcare decisions, demonstrating that she’s the right choice to represent Washingtonians in Congress. Seven in 10 Washingtonians support abortion access, and we’ll continue fighting for candidates who agree.” – NARAL Pro-Choice Washington Executive Director Tiffany Hankins
NARAL Pro-Choice Washington members have been working to mobilize voters throughout Washington state by knocking on doors, making phone calls and hosting rallies in support of pro-choice candidates up and down the ballot. NARLA is working to inform the pro-choice majority about which candidates are true pro-choice allies.
