The decision by the Supreme Court of the United States to overturn Roe v. Wade has led to heightened surveillance, policing, and criminalization of abortion. With abortion now illegal in more than 10 states, many individuals seeking abortion will travel to sanctuary states like Washington where the right to abortion is protected. Yet, these individuals, those supporting them, and their abortion providers still face the risk of criminalization. Several states across the country have enacted shield laws as one way to protect abortion patients, providers, and anyone else supporting the process.
Join us on Tuesday, September 20, at 6 PM for a presentation by Pro-Choice Washington’s 2022 Organizing and Campaign Fellows. They will discuss the current landscape of abortion, why shield laws are needed, what they protect, and how the Pro-Choice Washington network can respond to this uptick of criminalization through electoral and legislative advocacy.
