Position Summary

The Office Manager is responsible for assisting with finance, general operations, compliance reporting, and scheduling support for Executive Director. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth daily operations of the office and stewarding the systems and processes that allow our staff to work efficiently and productively.  By ensuring financial clarity for NARAL, this position is instrumental in advancing our mission to protect and advance reproductive freedom.

Key Duties

  • Perform bookkeeping functions, including making deposits, paying bills and taxes, running payroll, and reconciling accounts. Produce monthly financial statements, weekly income reports, and other financial reports as needed. Maintain financial policies and procedures.

  • Manage contract accountant. Assist as needed with making general ledger entries, 990 preparation, and correcting accounting errors.

  • In coordination with the Executive Director, prepare and manage annual budgets, weekly cash forecast, grant budgets, and other financial tools as needed.

  • File PDC reports; provide guidance to staff on allowable political activities; coordinate reporting with campaigns as needed.

  • Assist with drafting job descriptions, manage recruiting, and onboard new employees. Oversee benefit administration; maintain personnel policies and procedures. Work with vendors and consultants as needed on complex HR matters.

  • Work with vendors to resolve IT issues as needed. In partnership with program and fundraising staff, ensure timely and accurate entry of data into VAN and/or NGP databases.

  • Oversee the smooth daily operations, including communicating with building management; monitor and order supplies; maintain office equipment; monitor the general email account.

  • Provide guidance and advice to the Executive Director on matters related to personnel, IT, and financial management. Assist with planning and running board meetings.

  • Assist the Executive Director with their daily schedule and duties, including managing calendars, appointments, travel arrangements and drafting correspondence.



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

  • 3 years of relevant work experience, including at least 2 years of bookkeeping experience, required. Strong preference for nonprofit and/or political campaign experience.

  • Experience with QuickBooks required.

  • Technology savvy with experience troubleshooting hardware and software problems.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and wear many hats in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications and G Suite; general ability to learn and work in new software programs as needed. Experience with VAN and/or NGP bonus.

  • Unwavering commitment to the fundamental right of a woman to choose safe and legal abortion as part of a full range of reproductive health care choices.
