Position Summary
As a key member of the leadership team, the Pro-Choice Washington Organizing Director plays a critical role in shaping and implementing the organization’s overall strategy. In this position, the Organizing Director is responsible for leading and developing a highly effective organizing department that works to build grassroots support and advocate for reproductive rights across Washington State.
The role involves overseeing the work of Regional Organizing Coordinators and legislative and electoral fellows, as well as providing strategic guidance and support to the broader team. To achieve the organization’s goals, the Organizing Director focuses on expanding the reach of Pro-Choice Washington’s organizing efforts, with a particular emphasis on addressing disparities in access to abortion care for Black, Indigenous, and people of color, LGBTQIA2S+, rural, and low-income communities.
Utilizing digital campaign tools such as Voter Activation Network (VAN), Every Action, Thru Text, and Zoom and through innovative and strategic thinking, the Organizing Director helps to ensure that the organization is well-positioned to make meaningful progress towards its mission.

Responsibilities
Overseeing the Organizing Department (~ 85%)
- Lead the creation and execution of Pro-Choice Washington’s grassroots organizing strategy
- Develop, monitor and evaluate the organizing department budget
- Manage and support organizing staff and fellows to achieve annual goals
- Develop Pro-Choice Washington’s electoral field plan to support political goals
- Advise Pro-Choice Washington’s leadership on state and local political landscape
- Build and steward relationships with members, allies, partner organizations, coalitions, and associations across Washington to achieve shared policy goals.
Operations (~10%)
- Oversee department environment for organizing staff, fellows, chapters, and volunteers in alignment with Pro-Choice Washington’s values and policies
- Facilitate annual staff evaluations and provide input on compensation and staff wellbeing policies
- Develop and execute Organizing Department staffing strategy in partnership with Executive Director and Deputy Director
- Identify and secure additional contract support as needed
- Contribute to Pro-Choice Washington program department budget with strategic requests
- Support direct reports’ professional development through learning opportunities, feedback, and anti-oppression dialogues
- Ensure compliance with campaign finance reporting laws and IRS standards
- Approve direct reports’ timesheets bi-monthly.
Development (~ 5%)
- Collaborate with Organizing Coordinator and activists to recruit volunteers to support Pro-Choice Washington’s activities.
- Assist activist chapters with fundraising initiatives including the development of toolkits, training curriculums, and other assets.
- Provide strategic guidance to the communications and development teams fundraising efforts.
Required Skills for Success
- Professional experience: A minimum of four years of experience in organizing volunteers or activists on issue-based or electoral campaigns. Ability to work independently to manage multiple projects in a remote work environment.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Leadership skills: Ability to cultivate and sustain respectful relationships with a wide range of diverse stakeholders, while centering values of collaboration, equity, empathy, and direct communication.
- Strategic thinking: Ability to develop and implement effective public policy, political, and electoral strategies.
- Coalition building and management experience: Ability to design engaging and accessible educational programming, training, and leadership development resources for volunteers, coalition partners, activists, and staff.
- Fundraising experience: Has a solid understanding of fundraising best practices and the ability to create and implement fundraising strategies.
- Knowledge of reproductive rights: A deep understanding of intersectional components of reproductive freedom and rights, the political landscape surrounding these issues and a commitment to the mission and vision of Pro-Choice Washington.

Work Environment
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, and occasionally lift at least 25 pounds from floor to waist high. Work is primarily performed at home while operating standard office equipment. Occasional evening and weekend work is likely. Occasional travel within Washington state.
